SANTAS VISITS AMERICAN LEGION - American Legion Post 65 Veterans, Ladies Auxiliary and their guest were surprised at their December meeting by a visit from the legendary Santa Clause. Needless to say, everyone was excited to see the patron of Christmas enter the room. Chaplain John Hood presented the Christmas story. Jerry Farmer and his wife, Rose, entertained with seasonal songs. Santa and some of his elves (veterans) helped distribute door prizes. The dinner was catered by Matthews Bar B Q. Pictured from the left: Commander of Post 65 Al Butler, Vietnam veteran; Santa Clause, traditional patron of Christmas in the United States; Bill Begermann, WWII and Army veteran of the Normandy Invasion; Tena Buffington, Adjutant, serving in the Air Force during the eras of Cold War, Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
PORTRAIT PRESENTATION AT KING - Memorials given in memory of Mrs. Beth Long to the King Partner Program have been used to purchase a Reading Program for the Elementary and Middle School classes. Mrs. Long’s oil painting was presented at the school’s Christmas program and will be displayed at WKA. Her husband Charlie and son Todd were present for the presentation. A beautiful plaque will be displayed with the painting that expresses the school’s love for Mrs. Long, “In Loving Memory of WKA Elementary & Reading Teacher of 34 Years, Mrs. Beth Long, Exceptional Teacher, Caring Mentor, & Friend to Us All”! Pictured left to right are WKA Headmaster Dennis Gibson, Board Chairman Tillman Sauls, Mr. Charlie Long, Mr. Todd Long, Ms. Brenda Burkett, and Mr. Ken Davis.
