Saluda Man Turns 103

Marvin Bernstein of Saluda celebrated his 103rd Birthday June 6.
He is one of four children born to Joseph & Clara Bernstein. The family resided in Buffalo, NY
His younger brother Norman Bernstein has also celebrated a milestone by observing  his 100th birthday on May 17 this year.
Marvin is often asked what’s his secret to he and his brothers’ long lives and the answer is always the same: never drink or smoke, eat healthy and exercise.
Marvin has been a licensed Ham radio operator since 1933 and a licensed USMARS Ham operator since 1951. He is still active and on the radio five days a week.
A few days after Pearl Harbor Marvin received a letter from Fort Monmouth, NJ with orders to report to the Fort within the week. He was enlisted as a civilian for communications during the war and after the war ended he became an expert in the field of quartz crystals which were of high importance in radio & satellites.
He spoke at NATO conferences all over the world representing the United States Government in the 1950’s, 1960’s & early 1970’s before his retirement.
