Saluda Native Making A Name In His New Home

Johnny Lorenzo Rhode has made being the first to do something the norm in different roles in Spartanburg County.
Johnny was the first black male teacher at Spartanburg Prep School (formerly Spartanburg Charter School) and became the Athletic Director in 2011. In 2016, Johnny helped Chapman High School (Inman, S.C.) win its first Football State Championship in school history as a wide receiver coach.
Finally in 2018, Johnny signed his contract to become the first black male Assistant Principal at EP Todd School (Spartanburg, S.C.).
“I contribute a good portion of my success from growing up in the small community of Saluda. It truly is an example of it taking a village to raise a child. My ultimate goal is to inspire both the youth and my peers to not let obstacles stop them from reaching their purpose in life. Athletes like Lebron James have inspired me to not let your past determine your future. He has done so much for his hometown and has become a role model for young boys in Northeast Ohio. I would love to one day return to Saluda to try and make a difference in the community. If God wants it to happen, then it will come to past one day.”
Johnny is a 2005 graduate of Saluda High School. He is the son of Johnny and Esther Rhode. His wife Gina Rhode and two childern (Jayden and Kaidyn) reside with him in Boiling Springs, S.C.
