Arts On The Ridge To Sponsor Three Summer Camps

  Arts on the Ridge, in conjunction with the Batesburg-Leesville Chamber of Commerce and Lexington County School District 3, is proud to announce they will offer three exciting Summer Arts Enrichment Camps for students, June 24-27.  The camps will be held at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School and all camps are open to all children in public schools, private schools or home schooled students.  Students wishing to participate in any of the camps are not required to live in the Lexington 3 attendance zone.
  This year’s camps include:
  Visual Arts Camp – B-L Middle School art teacher Amber Bouknight and retired art teacher Carolyn Ellis will return for their second year as instructors for this camp.  Children who will be in the fourth through eighth graders during the 2019-20 school year will be eligible to participate and will have the opportunity to work with numerous visual art techniques.  This camp will be held from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, Monday through Thursday.
  Performing Arts Camp – The Baillie Players, a touring theatre company, will return for the third year to present “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”  Children entering the third through seventh grades in fall 2019 are eligible to attend.  This camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (rehearsal time).
  Choral Camp – this new camp is open to all students who will enter either second or third grade in fall 2019.  Kendall Reece, music teacher at B-L Primary School, will share her love of singing with these youngsters and will help to develop their vocal skills.  This camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Thursday.
  Participating students will have the opportunity to participate in the Lexington District 3 Summer Feeding program during the week of camp.  Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. and lunch will be served from 12 noon until 12:30 p.m.  All meals are free and will be served in the B-L Middle School cafeteria.
  How to Register – Interested parents/guardians should contact camp directors, Judy Turner Fox at 803-767-7239 or Gail Davidson at 803-315-7332 by Monday June 3 to register their child (children) for a camp. Please remember that these camps have limited enrollments and are filled on a “first come, first served” basis, so register early to ensure that your child can attend.  Payment is due at time of registration and is non-refundable. No child can be registered via social media, Messenger, text or email.  You MUST call either Mrs. Davidson or Mrs. Turner Fox to register your child.
  Cost for each camp is $25 per student with an extra $5 supply fee charged for the Visual Arts Camp. The Choral and Performing Arts Camps are limited to 30 participants.  The Visual Arts Camp is limited to 25 students. Fees for all camps must be paid no later than Monday, June 3. Slots in all camps will only be held until June 3 without payment. After June 3, the students on waiting lists will be contacted to fill those unpaid slots.
  •Payment of fees may be made by cash or check.  Checks should be made payable to “Arts on the Ridge.”  If paying by check, be sure your child’s name is on the “memo” line of your check. Fees may be taken to the Batesburg-Leesville Chamber of Commerce on East Columbia Avenue in Leesville (next to Shealy’s BBQ) during normal business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or placed in the mail slot on the green front door after hours and on weekends. If placing your cash or check in the mail slot, please secure the payment in an envelope with parent’s name, child’s name and the camp they will attend on the front of the envelope.

  •A Camp Showcase for all participants will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the B-L Middle School Cafeteria.  Family and friends are encouraged to attend this free showcase of the students’ work.  Donations to Arts on the Ridge will be accepted during the Showcase to offset expenses of the camps.

Average Again

  For the third straight month, rainfall in the Town of Saluda totaled around three inches.
  A total of 3.02 inches fell during April.  So far, 12.22 inches of rain has fallen this year. This compares to 13.35  inches during the same time in 2018.
  Temperatures were warm for April, with 15 days with highs in the 80s.  The highest daily temperature, 86, was recorded on April 30. The lowest daytime high, 57, was on April 3. The lowest morning temperature, 33, was recorded on April 3 and 4.

Saluda High Spring Sports

  Saluda High School Varsity Softball fell to Central Pageland SC 12-4 Monday, April 29.
  Six errors leading to 7 unearned runs doomed the Lady Tigers in the 3rd round of the playoffs. Offensively Kaylee Long hit a HR, Carmen Doubrava had 2 hits, Victoria Dorsey had 2 RBIs and Madison Crouch had 3 doubles. With the loss Saluda is eliminated from the 2019 playoffs.
  Saluda High School Boys Varsity Golf fell to Abbeville High School 184-232 Tuesday, April 23. The Tigers fell in their final match of the regular season to Abbeville 184-232.
  Saluda High School Boys Varsity Golf finished 5th place at Region Tournament Monday, April 29. Saluda ended their season with a 5th place finish Monday at the region tournament at Persimmon Hills. JD Forrest led the way for Saluda shooting a 85 and a 9th place finish in the region.
